🔶 Paralyzing venom:

A venom that severely dulls the target’s ability to move. Non-lethal. Takes a minimum of five minutes to start to affect a large (ex. human) target. Does not cause full paralysis. Bug's poison glands take about a week or more to fully refill - as such, Bug prefers to save the venom for emergencies only.

🔶 Bodily strengths:

Sharp teeth, claws, as well as a hard carapace. His skin in both forms is tough, but the orange joints are sensitive and obviously a weak spot. His eyes are immune to most irritants such as sand. He is fairly sensitive to bright lights, however.

🔶 Earth control:

Bug can transform the earth to his will or burrow deep into the ground. His powers don’t work if he’s suspended in air, but as long as he has something solid underneath him, he’s fine. He can form earth into spikes, and his arms allow him to throw rocks (and/or other available small objects) for mediocre damage. He cannot make intricate shapes with his power yet, as it is currently unstable.

Bug is a very easygoing fellow. So easygoing that upon realizing nobody can pronounce his name correctly, much less remember it, he just resorted to telling people to call him ‘Bug’, and it eventually just stuck. It’s kind of unfair to expect people without extra mandibles to say his name right, after all. All in all, he’s fairly relaxed and he can take a fair amount of someone’s bad attitude before it starts to bother him. Even then, he rarely ever resorts to violence.

In most situations, Bug wears a smile and manages to think quickly when issued a task that requires such. But sometimes his constant carefree attitude might get worrying or even annoying, especially in a serious situation. He usually does take things seriously, even if he doesn’t show it, but his behaviour might make him seem uncaring. Holding back his thoughts leads to problems with teamwork, and he might try to pressure people into doing things his way. He tries to always see if he did something wrong before blaming others, but he may forget at times and lecture someone without meaning to. He also has strong opinions, and if someone challenges him he will argue back until he is utterly proven to be wrong.

So, basically, he tries to be a good person, but he has his faults.

History

Bug’s species was originally spread across in multiple deserts, but he couldn’t tell you which ones as his species’ and humans’ names for the areas are completely different. But his own tribe was one of the many in Sahara, plagued by drought and lack of food. Unfortunately, the harsh conditions coupled with humanity’s involvement made his species even more scarce - and the wars between the insectoid tribes did not help things.

He witnessed the deaths of many, including his own parents’, and ultimately he was left alone. A year after the war had ended, he kept wandering around various towns and cities, looking for a place to live in and doing any jobs he could at the side, when he one day found an abandoned human child out of town. He waited for a long time to see if anyone would come to find the child, but when nobody came he didn’t have the heart to leave her behind - especially not in the middle of a deserted street - so he picked her up and continued his way, naming the child Ini. She was too young to object, but she was thankful for someone taking care of her and it didn’t take her long to grow used to the oddly gentle demon. 

A good few years later, when Bug was working as a waiter, he heard some of his co-workers talk  about Seryy - a city where humans and demons could live peacefully. Deciding to figure out more, he found out all he could about it and found out about D.A.M.M.E.D. as well. It didn’t take long for him to decide, and soon he was gathering the means in order to move into Seryy. And, eventually, him and Ini did successfully move to the city where Bug took on the job of a bartender in order to support him and his adopted daughter. He continued living in the city for two years or so, waiting for his daughter to grow old enough to support herself.

Now that she is 18 and has her own part time job, he feels he finally has the opportunity to do what he has wanted to do ever since he found out about it; Join D.A.M.M.E.D..

Why the character wants to join DAMMED

Bug’s reasoning is pretty simple; he wants to make the world into a place where he can pick up his daughter from school without fearing she’ll be bullied. A world where people won’t look at him like a kidnapper, but as a father who took care of someone nobody else would. A world where children like Ini aren’t left behind in the first place.

He’s not an idealist; he knows that he won’t make a direct difference simply by working for D.A.M.M.E.D.. He knows that things might not change in dozens of years, if even in his lifetime. He knows that D.A.M.M.E.D. will not grant his wishes simply by existing - he knows that would be unreasonable.

He just wants to do something, anything, in order to make even the tiniest difference towards a safer world. Though, if you asked him… there’s no way he’d ever admit it out loud. He has an ego to uphold, after all.

🔶 Bug’s real name may have a written edition for the sake of paperwork, but it is not pronounced like it is written at all. It’s almost impossible to get right without mandibles and a specific shape of tongue, though, so it’s okay.

🔶 Bug represents an endangered species that has been subjected to many internal wars and tough climate. Because of this, his species does not have a shared name in any human language. When asked, he simply refers to himself as an insectoid.

🔶 Yet, despite being very bug-like in appearance, Bug is more comparable to a mammal than an insect - as evidenced by him having a navel.

🔶 Carapace takes time to heal when it does break - so he fights by dodging and attacking at random. He is not an expert in combat, but he has a good bit of experience under his belt in the form of hunting and self-defense.

🔶 The full lifespan of an insectoid like Bug is pretty much unknown, but they age up much slower than humans - so Bug looks like he’d be around 25-30. He tends to act like everyone’s dad, though.

🔶 Bug used to be a bartender before applying for D.A.M.M.E.D. He might still be seen working in the same bar during weekends. If you find it, that is.

🔶 He loves puns. He might love them more than keeping friends. So, you know. Be wary.

🔶 Ini, his daughter, gives him the worst shirts for father’s day. Joke’s on Ini, though, because Bug wears them unironically. Thanks, Bug.

🔶 Bug’s favourite genre of music is electric swing or extremely old songs. He doesn’t mind modern music at all, but he loves a good swingy or jazzy tune. You might find him singing out loud every now and then.

After my wifi completely bailed on me just as I was trying to submit this, let's hope that it does actually. Submit.

Either way, whether I get in or not, I'm really proud of this! I'm still trying to figure out Clip Paint Studio after the loss of my SAI, so there were a few problems but nothing major. We'll see how it goes!
